10 years ago, the Swedish Equality Ombudsman took a case against Western Union to combat discrimination based on an algorithm used to block transactions by people who were named on EU sanction lists, created after 9/11 to combat terrorism. The coarse algorithm affected many men or Arab or Muslim background and was considered discriminatory. Martin Mörk is Deputy Ombudsman and Head of Litigation at the Equality Ombudsman, Sweden.
